MCP legislators urged to serve constituents post-demarcation
Central Region Chairperson urges MCP legislators to continue working with their constituents despite demarcation, emphasizing the importance of boosting the country's economy.
DOWA, MALAWI — During an MCP rally hosted by legislator Abel Kayembe at Ngoole Primary School, Central Region Chairperson Patrick Zebron Chilondola advised MCP legislators to not abandon their constituents due to demarcation, writes Esther Banda.
"My advice is that our Members of Parliament should not abandon those who voted for them till the next election, which is in 2025," Chilondola said.
Minister of Homeland Security Zikhale Ng'oma, who graced the rally as the guest of honour, stressed the importance of MCP legislators working hard with their constituents to boost the country's economy.
"I want all the MCP legislators to work very hard because it's the only way to prosper and boost the economy of our country," Ng'oma stated.
Before the rally, Ng'oma officially received the handover of the Dzoole Police Unit construction project from RHEMA Building Construction Limited and handed it over to the community through legislator Abel Kaembe.
In his address, legislator Abel Kayembe expressed his commitment to continue working together with his constituents despite the demarcation.
"Despite the demarcation, I will continue to work together with my constituents and bring more development to my constituency until 2025," Kayembe promised.
Kayembe further highlighted that the construction of the Police Unit would tighten security in the constituency, addressing numerous cases that posed a threat to the local population.
Additionally, Kayembe recently contributed cheques worth K5 million to various women groups of Bank Nkhonde in his constituency who are small-scale farmers, aiming to engage them in irrigation development.
Minister of Trade Simplex Chithyola commended Kayembe's efforts, stating that his actions were commendable, and aligned with the ministry's mandate to develop Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
The provision of K5 million will help women in Dowa West maintain social and economic stability.
