LILONGWE, Malawi— The fourth annual Mathumela Festival will showcase emerging musical artists alongside veteran performers on December 1, 2024, in Kawale, organizers announced Wednesday, writes Sellaphine Banda Selemani.
Festival founder Lawrence Khwisa, known professionally as Lulu, said the event is dedicated to providing platforms for up-and-coming musicians who struggle to gain recognition.
"When I started out, I struggled to gain recognition because veteran musicians wouldn't give me a platform," Khwisa said.
"This festival is dedicated to uplifting emerging artists and providing them with a chance to shine alongside industry veterans."
The star-studded lineup includes artists such as Kelly Kay, Phyzix, Malinga, Zeze, Macelba, Gwamba, Charisma, Mr. Zembani, and Born Africa.
Khwisa, also a member of the Mathumela Band, plans to perform songs from his upcoming Extended Playlist (EP) and promised attendees "a mesmerizing experience."
"I urge the audience to come in numbers to witness raw talents from both underground and veteran musicians," he said.
