Malawi's Umtheto ceremony to cost K78m, organizers seek donations
This year's ceremony will also mark Inkosi ya Makhosi M'mbelwa V's 10th year of rule since 2014.
MZIMBA, Malawi — The Mzimba Heritage Association (MZIHA) says this year's Umtheto ceremony is expected to cost nearly K78 million, prompting an appeal for financial contributions from well-wishers, writes Victoria Yande.
The event, set for July 31 to Aug. 3 at Hora Mountain, carries the theme "A Traditional catalyst for unity to fight climate change."
MZIHA General Secretary Kingsley Jere says preparations are underway, with heavy reliance on traditional leaders, each contributing 2 million Kwacha.
Jere emphasized the theme's importance, linking culture and climate change.
"Culture is identity. Umtheto unites people and is a platform for business, attracting people through various ethnic groups and natural resources," he said.
This year's ceremony will also mark Inkosi ya Makhosi M'mbelwa V's 10th year of rule since 2014.
