Malawi's Ministry of Gender Calls on Graduates to Ensure Professionalism and Work Ethics
Minister of Gender Jean Sendeza MP made the request during the graduation ceremonies of 288 students held at Mgomero College in Chiradzulu district on July 31, 2023.
CHIRADZULU, Malawi-The Ministry of Gender, Community Development, and Social Welfare in Malawi has called on graduates of Mgomero College to ensure professionalism and work ethics when working in different departments, writes Royal Kasiya.
Minister of Gender Jean Sendeza MP made the request during the graduation ceremonies of 288 students held at Mgomero College in Chiradzulu district on July 31, 2023.
She emphasised the impact professionalism and work ethics can have on the country's development.
She urged them to refrain from corruption, as this negatively affects public service delivery.
She also advised them to organise themselves into groups so that they can access loans to start small-scale businesses and support themselves rather than searching for jobs.
"I urge you to work professionally, avoid corruption, and follow work ethics because these have a greater impact on public service delivery. You should make sure that you organize yourselves into groups so that you can easily access loans to start small-scale businesses for self-reliance," said Sendeza.
She further expressed her appreciation to development partners such as USAID, EU and the Department of Finance and Administration in the Ministry of Finance who are funding different programs offered at the college by providing scholarship opportunities to deserving students.
"Let me also thank development partners such as USAID and EU for their financial and technical support. This reflects the confidence they have in the current government," she added.
In her remarks, the Secretary for Gender Community Development and Social Welfare, Roseline Makhumula, thanked staff members of Mgomero College for the effort made in producing the best field workers.
She asked them to continue the good work they have been doing.
"I appreciate the recommendable job done by the members of staff at this college since you produce competent field workers. I urge you to keep on doing a good job," she said.
On the other hand, she asked the graduates to deliver quality services and add value to noble professions in order to help the government achieve the 2063 Sustainable Development Goals.
"I request you (the graduates) to deliver good quality services in different fields of your professions. This will assist the government attain the 2063 Sustainable Development Goals," she added.
The principal of Magomero College, Thokozani Mtapaonga, has assured the government that the college will continue producing well-trained field officers.
She also thanked development partners for their support while congratulating the students for their academic achievements.
"We produce the best field workers, and I assure the government that as an institution we will continue producing the best. Let me also congratulate the graduates for their academic achievements. I further express my heartfelt appreciation to the development partners and the government for your financial and technical support," she said.
In his remarks, student representative Rio Chipa thanked the principal and the entire staff of Magomero College for their commitment.
He also thanked the development partners for providing scholarship opportunities to less privileged students. He assured the government that they will bring a positive impact on communities where they will be working.
"I thank the principal and the whole staff of Magomero College for their commitment to ensure that we acquired the relevant skills. I also thank the development partners such as USAID and EU for providing scholarships to underprivileged students. Let me assure the government that through the knowledge and skills acquired, we will work successfully in order to achieve the 2063 Sustainable Development Goals," he said.
The students graduated with diplomas and certificates in the fields of Social Work, Community Development, Integrated Social Protection, Agro-food Processing and Nutrition, and Home Management.
Among them are serving officers from different ministries, departments, and civil society organizations.
