Malawians Applaud Active Role In Curricula Overhaul
The nationwide curricula review consultative process was scheduled to run from January 16th to January 20th, 2024.
ZOMBA, Malawi - The Deputy Minister of Education, Nancy Chaola Mdooko, has emphasized the importance of the education curriculum review process in realizing Malawi's 2063 vision, writes Staff Reporter.
Speaking at a consultative meeting held at Mulunguzi Secondary School hall in Zomba on Saturday, January 20th, 2024, Mdooko highlighted that the curriculum review provides Malawian citizens with an opportunity to actively shape curricula that align with their needs.
According to Mdooko, regular curriculum review is crucial to ensure that the content and goals of the curriculum align with the nation's development objectives, including economic independence and technological progression.
The consultative meetings were designed to gather input from various stakeholders and ensure that the curriculum is balanced, realistic, and relevant to the needs and aspirations of Malawians.
The Ministry of Education is actively implementing Enabler number 5, Human Capital Development, as envisioned in the 2063 agenda.
This is the reason behind the ministry's decision to engage stakeholders in developing a curriculum that responds to the current standards of education in Malawi, aligning with the 2063 agenda and changing global trends.
"I am glad that people were very free to express their minds, this is commendable, I can assure you that we will consider your contributions," Mdooko assured the attendees.
The Ministry, in collaboration with the Malawi Institute of Education (MIE), is currently reviewing the curriculum.
Once completed, the new curriculum will replace the existing one by 2025. It is worth noting that the last curriculum review took place in 2007.
The nationwide curricula review consultative process was scheduled to run from January 16th to January 20th, 2024.
Mdooko emphasized the importance of education for the future of Malawi, highlighting its role as the key to unlocking the nation's potential.
