Malawian Rappers' Social Media Feud Escalates After Collaboration Criticism
The incident has sparked discussions among fans about the nature of artistic collaboration and criticism within the local music industry.
BLANTYRE, Malawi— A long-standing social media feud between three Malawian rappers has intensified following criticism of a recent collaboration, writes Wyness Michelle Msukwa, AfricaBrief Entertainment Reporter.
The dispute involves South Africa-based artist Gemini Rudebouy Major, Blantyre-based rapper Achina Gata Aise, and Ras Evans Muzik.
The conflict escalated when Ras Evans Muzik publicly criticized a song featuring Gemini Rudebouy Major and Achina Gata Aise.
Speaking in the local language, Evans Muzik said, "mitu ikulu ikulu ndithu koma akati ayimbe nyimbo limodzi imakhala yopepela," which roughly translates to, "They have big heads indeed, but when they collaborate on a song, it turns out to be weak."
Achina Gata Aise quickly responded to the criticism by announcing his next project on social media.
The new release is scheduled to drop on Friday, Sept. 27.
This public exchange highlights growing tensions in the Malawian hip-hop scene, where social media increasingly plays a role in artist rivalries and promotion.
