LILONGWE, Malawi — Charles Sineta, a prominent figure in the philanthropic landscape of Malawi, is set to attend the prestigious GivingTuesday Global Summit in Portugal from 28th May to 2nd June 2023, writes Winston Mwale.
As one of the Global Leaders for GivingTuesday, Sineta's participation aims to ignite the spirit of radical generosity in Malawi and foster cross-country collaborations with like-minded individuals and organisations from around the world.
Motivated by his qualification as a global leader, Sineta expressed his enthusiasm for the summit, stating, "I am excited to lead the GivingTuesday movement in Malawi and learn from other global leaders who have been spreading radical generosity across the globe."
With an expanding presence, GivingTuesday has gained traction in various countries.
Sineta highlighted that in the current quarter, nine countries have already joined the movement, including South Africa, Bangladesh, Japan, India, Malawi, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Togo, and Uganda.
The summit will provide an opportunity for Sineta and other participants to exchange knowledge and explore strategies to ignite generosity worldwide.
During the summit, Sineta plans to leverage the knowledge and experiences gained to enhance philanthropic efforts in Malawi.
GivingTuesday Malawi already boasts 26 member organisations, comprising 14 NGOs and 12 media organisations.
Together, they aim to promote community philanthropy and spread generosity throughout the nation.
Sineta's particular areas of interest at the summit include fundraising for the movement, networking, and monitoring and evaluation.
He intends to collaborate with other national coordinators and organisations to foster cross-country partnerships and share knowledge.
The summit will explore reinforcing collaboration within regional hubs, such as the Europe Hub, America Hub, India Hub, and Africa Hub.
Reflecting on the future of philanthropy and giving in Malawi, Sineta emphasised the need to institutionalise community philanthropy and change the landscape of giving.
He urged individuals and organisations in Malawi to embrace generosity wholeheartedly and prioritise the needs of others, emphasising that every act of generosity counts.
Sineta's participation in the GivingTuesday Global Summit is expected to pave the way for a more vibrant philanthropic ecosystem in Malawi.
He expressed his pride in representing his country as a country leader for the movement and encouraged all network members and well-wishers to prepare for the implementation of GivingTuesday activities.
