Malawian Paramount Chief Receives Millions in Luxury Furniture Donations

MZIMBA, Malawi— A local furniture company has donated a luxurious sofa set worth over K2.5 million to Inkosi Ya Makhosi M'mbelwa V, the paramount chief of the Ngoni people in Malawi's northern region, writes Lovemore Shaba.
The donation, made by Davina Furnishers, is intended for use at the Hora Palace during the upcoming Umthetho Cultural Ceremony.
At the handover event, Davina's Managing Director Davis Kansenza emphasized the company's commitment to community relations.
"We do business with different people in various chiefdoms led by their kings. This is part of our corporate social responsibility," Kansenza said.
M'mbelwa V expressed gratitude for the generous gesture.
"This furniture will be very useful during the event as we expect to receive many visitors from across Africa," he said.
The Umthetho Cultural Festival, an annual celebration of Ngoni culture and traditions, is scheduled for Aug. 1-3, 2024.
Organizers anticipate a significant turnout, including more than 50 royal family members of the Zulu Nation from South Africa, led by King Misuzulu Sinqobile kaZwelithini.
In a related development, Moffat Kumwenda, a representative from Mzimba North constituency, has also made a substantial contribution.
Kumwenda donated furniture worth over K1.5 million to Inkosi Mthwalo for use at the Royal Huts at Hora Heritage Centre.
