Lilongwe, Malawi - Super League of Malawi (SULOM) has announced plans to roll out an e-ticketing system at select stadiums ahead of the 2024 season kickoff in April, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
In collaboration with title sponsors TNM, the new system aims to address longstanding issues like counterfeit tickets and loss of revenue for clubs.
"E-ticketing will help streamline gate processes and improve financial accountability," said SULOM President Col Gilbert Mitawa at a press briefing on Friday.
Mitawa noted the digital ticketing was one topic of discussion at SULOM's recent AGM.
Stakeholder engagements will be held to ensure a smooth launch.
Sports analyst Willy Chabwinja hailed the move, saying it will eliminate chaos at turnstiles while allowing fans to purchase tickets conveniently online or via mobile.
"Embracing technology is key for the growth of our game. I encourage supporters to take advantage of e-ticketing for the new season," he advised.
TNM will lead implementation of the system on a trial basis this year.
SULOM hopes it leads to higher revenues shared between clubs and sponsors.
