PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA - Fide Master Joseph Mwale, the reigning Malawi National Chess Champion, has emerged triumphant in the Emalahleni Chess Tournament held in Mpumalanga, South Africa, writes Happy Valirani.
With over 33 players participating, Mwale's stellar performance has put him on a winning streak as he continues to shine in chess tournaments abroad.
Expressing his delight after the competition, Mwale stated that this victory represented a significant achievement in his quest to enhance his chess skills at an international level.
"I am very excited about this victory. As you know, I have been in South Africa since the end of July; this is my second tournament. In my first tournament, I secured third place, and now I have finished at the top. This success has greatly motivated me as I eagerly await upcoming tournaments," Mwale said in an interview with AfricaBrief.
Looking ahead, Mwale's next challenge awaits on Wednesday, August 9, as he competes in the Tswane tournament, which coincides with Ladies Day in Pretoria, South Africa.
Following this, he will participate in the Jacaranda Chess Tournament on August 12 in the same city.
With his impressive performances thus far, Mwale has firmly set his sights on international success.
