Malawi to Disburse K534 Million in NEEF Loans
The NEEF program aims to provide economic opportunities for eligible Malawians, including youth and persons with disabilities.
SALIMA, Malawi— The Malawi government will disburse K534 million in loans through the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF), Vice President Michael Usi announced Monday, writes Wendi Mkandawire.
Speaking at a public sensitization event in Salima District, Usi emphasized the inclusive nature of the program.
"Whether people are physically challenged, when they are eligible, they are going to get the loans," Usi said.
"This loan facility will provide names of beneficiaries so that people should know the facts, not opinions taken through social media."
NEEF board director Thabbie Chilongo reported significant progress over the past three years.
"We have managed to disburse 132 billion kwacha and increase the repayment rate from 20% to 82%," Chilongo said.
"Our achievement is that we have managed to create close to 400,000 jobs through NEEF loans."
Chilongo added that local chiefs will be involved in identifying individuals who fail to repay loans.
