Malawi: Malawi will join the rest of the world in commemorating the International Day of the Elderly on Friday, October 21st, 2022.
Initially, the United Nations designated October 1st as the International Day of Older Persons.
Older people play an important role in our country by assisting the next generation to sharpen their skills in a variety of ways, even though they sometimes face violence by being accused of witchcraft, etc.
The main celebrations will take place at Mzuzu City's Chibavi Ground.
In a statement issued on October 1st of this year, the Malawi Network of Elderly Persons Organization (MANEPO) asked the government to investigate all cases of people suspected of killing elderly people.
According to Andrew Kavala, Executive Director of the Malawi Network of Older Persons Organization (MANEPO), the day is very significant because there are a lot of inspiring older adults who are always looking for ways to help the younger generation achieve their goals.
"We are so grateful to have communities that are so engaged and enthusiastic about working with seniors to improve their lives," Kavala said.
This year's theme for International Day of the Elderly is 'Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World, Heightening Resilience of Older Women.'
Thanks very much for the article. I am a university lecturer and a senior citizen of Malawi. I am love helping my fellow elders by providing counselling services to the aged, developing proposals for the improvement of quality of health for the senior citizens. I am available on 0994425696.
