Malawi Soccer Club Cuts Travel Costs with New Team Bus
The team purchased the bus for K40 million early last year, but it remained at the Songwe Border until the club recently negotiated import duties.
MZUZU, Malawi - Mzuzu City Hammers Football Club expects to halve its operating expenses in 2025 after acquiring a 36-seat team bus, ending its reliance on costly vehicle rentals, writes Victor Musongole.
Club General Secretary Benjamin Thole said previous transportation arrangements consumed more than 50 percent of the team's seasonal budget, with single trips to Blantyre costing over K2 million.
"The coming in of the bus will cut our cost by half as hiring proved costly," Thole said.
He added that the new vehicle would allow players more recovery time between matches, potentially improving on-field performance.

Christopher Njeula, former general secretary of Kamuzu Barracks and soccer analyst, praised the investment.
"The bus will boost morale for the team and help them in running costs," he said.
Mzuzu City Hammers finished fourth in their league last season and reached the Castel Challenge Cup finals, rebounding from a near-relegation in 2023.
