Malawi Reggae Icon's Memorial Show Rescheduled
The Black Missionaries have released 12 studio albums, including two by Matafale and 10 of their own, cementing their status as Malawi's top reggae group.
Blantyre, Malawi — Malawi's most venerated reggae maestro Evison Matafale's annual memorial show will be held on December 1, 2024, rather than the traditional November 27 date, the Black Missionaries band leader Anjiru Fumulani announced, writes Sellaphine Banda Selemani.
"Traditionally, the memorial show takes place on November 27, but since it falls on a weekday, we've shifted it to December 1, 2024," Fumulani explained, citing concerns about attendance impact.
Matafale, born on November 20, 1969, tragically passed away on November 27, 2001 at age 32 while in police custody.
Before his death, he had founded the Black Missionaries to advocate for black liberation and Rastafarianism.
Fumulani promised an "amazing show" featuring veteran and up-and-coming artists, including Hax Mumba, Six Solid Band, Lenzo Mushanga, and Born Africa.
"Expect fireworks!" he exclaimed.
