Malawi Recalls L'Oreal Shampoo Due to Bacteria, Infection Risk
According to the CFTC, using the contaminated shampoo may lead to scalp infections in individuals with compromised immune systems.
LILONGWE, Malawi— Malawi's Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) has issued a recall for certain L'Oreal Dark and Lovely shampoo products due to potential bacterial contamination, writes Winston Mwale.
The recall affects 50ml single-use neutralizing shampoo contained in Dark and Lovely Moisture Plus Kits (Regular and Super) and Dark and Lovely Anti Breakage Kit.
These products were manufactured by L'Oreal South Africa in April 2023.
According to the CFTC, using the contaminated shampoo may lead to scalp infections in individuals with compromised immune systems.
The commission has not yet confirmed whether the affected products are available on the Malawian market.
Consumers, distributors, and retailers are urged to immediately stop using or selling the recalled shampoo.
Those in possession of the products should return them to their suppliers for a full refund.
The CFTC is encouraging consumers who have purchased the affected products to report their concerns via the commission's toll-free line or WhatsApp.

L'Oreal South Africa has not yet commented on the recall. The extent of distribution to neighboring countries remains unclear.
