DURBAN, South Africa — The Malawi Beach Soccer national team qualified for the semi-finals of this year's COSAFA Beach Soccer Championships after a resounding 7-2 victory over Seychelles on Wednesday at the South Beach Arena, writes Happy Valirani.
Captain Isaac Kajamu and Dala Simba scored a brace each, while Alnord Lastern, Thoko Kamanga and Martin Biliati added a goal apiece in Malawi's dominant win. Kajamu was named man of the match for his exceptional performance.
With 6 points from three games, Malawi finished second in Group A behind Saudi Arabia, who topped the group with 9 points after winning all their matches. Malawi had beaten hosts South Africa in their opener before losing to Saudi Arabia.
"I attribute this win to God, but the boys did what we asked them to do, mentally they were strong and had confidence, that's why we have won the game," said Willy Kumilambe, Malawi's head coach.
"The two players that have just joined have complemented the areas we were lacking. This means the team is complete now, and I'm very confident we are ready for the semi-finals."
In Group B, Morocco and Mozambique qualified for the semi-finals. Morocco topped the group with 6 points, level with second-placed Mozambique, who secured an 8-4 win over Angola in their final game.
