Malawi's national netball team, the Queens, stages a comeback in the fourth quarter to defeat Scotland in the Netball World Cup.
Cape Town, South Africa - Malawi's Queens stunned Scotland 55-49 in an exciting Netball World Cup opener on Friday, writes Happy Valirani.
The Malawian team trailed 17-9 and 28-22 after the first two quarters, but they rallied in the second half behind the play of Joyce Mvula, who was named player of the match.
Mvula scored 24 goals for Malawi, including 12 in the fourth quarter.
She was supported by Mwawi Kumwenda, who added 17 goals.
Scotland led for most of the game, but they were unable to hold off Malawi's late surge. The Queens outscored Scotland 17-17 in the final quarter to secure the victory.
Malawi's win was a surprise for many, as Scotland was ranked higher in the world rankings.
However, the Queens showed that they are a force to be reckoned with in this year's tournament.
Malawi will face England on Saturday in their next match.
In other opening matches, South Africa defeated Wales 61-50, Uganda triumphed over Singapore with a score of 79-37, and Zimbabwe suffered a loss to Australia with a staggering 86-30 margin.
