Malawi Putting "Everything Tourism" with Expo, Investment Plan
The multi-year masterplan aims to upgrade roads, hotels, tourist attractions and amenities through combined public and private investment to boost Malawi's tourism sector.
LILONGWE, Malawi - Malawi aims to dramatically boost its tourism industry by implementing a new National Tourism Investment Masterplan and promoting the country as the "Warm Heart of Africa" at this week's Malawi International Tourism Expo, writes Winston Mwale.
President Lazarus Chakwera on Thursday declared "Ipatse Moto, Everything Tourism!" as Malawi concluded the ATM Promotion Week with the 5th edition of the expo.
Chakwera emphasized that tourism is now "cast in stone" as a pathway towards sustainable jobs and wealth creation for Malawi.
He announced the country is determined to implement its masterplan to provide modern infrastructure to grow the industry.
"Malawi remains a premier tourist destination that offers diverse experiences to both local and international clientele," Chakwera said at the expo's closing ceremony.
"This was a timely prospect to showcase what the Warm Heart of Africa brings to the global tourism platform."
The expo attracted a host of foreign exhibitors, tourism enterprises, operators, potential investors, local and international buyers, and travel enthusiasts. Chakwera said the expo highlighted Malawi as an attractive destination.
"Guided by this certainty, we are determined to implement the Malawi National Tourism Investment Masterplan, which seeks to provide requisite modern infrastructure for the growth of the industry," the president stated.
