Malawi President Welcomes South African Investors, Promises Favourable Business Environment
President Lazarus Chakwera meets with South African investors expressing interest in various sectors, assures them of favorable business climate.
SANDTON – GAUTENG - SOUTH AFRICA — Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera met with a group of South African investors today, to discuss potential investments in various sectors of the country's economy, writes Winston Mwale.
The investors expressed interest in areas such as tourism, gaming, clean energy infrastructure, agro-processing, and construction.
Among the investors present was Hosken Consolidated Investments Limited (HCI), a company with a diverse portfolio in hotel and leisure, interactive gaming, media and broadcasting, transport, mining, and properties.
HCI has shown specific interest in the Likoma Activity Centre Project, as well as Malawi's tourism and gaming sectors.
Blue Energy Africa, a leading Pan-African developer of clean energy infrastructure, also expressed its intention to invest in over 200 megawatts of power generation within a year.
Natal East India Pty Ltd., a rice processing company, expressed interest in the Lifuwu Rice Mega Farm.
Their investment model involves utilising out-grower schemes to optimise production and implementing a robust export strategy that supports the value chain with attractive markets.
Sizampilo Projects, an investor in construction and infrastructure development, is already in advanced negotiations with consultants to finance and construct the Twin Towers at Capital Hill in Lilongwe.
President Chakwera, who is attending the BRICS summit, assured all the investors of a friendly business climate in Malawi, supported by the government's deliberate policy frameworks.
He emphasised the commitment to realising the country's development targets and creating the Malawi that we all aspire to.
The meeting with the South African investors highlights the potential for increased foreign investment in Malawi and the government's efforts to attract and support such investments.
