Malawi President To Attend COMESA Summit In Zambia On Green Investment
Malawi Pres. Chakwera to attend COMESA summit in Lusaka, Zambia on June 8, writes Winston Mwale.
Lilongwe, Malawi - Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera will attend the 22nd Summit of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) on June 8 in Lusaka, Zambia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, writes Winston Mwale.
The theme of the summit is "Economic Integration for a Thriving COMESA, Anchored on Green Investment, Value Addition, and Tourism".
President Chakwera will champion a regional approach to climate mitigation given the significant impact of climate disasters on COMESA integration, the statement said.
The summit will also address the region's vulnerability to shocks like the COVID-19 pandemic.
It will be COMESA's first in-person meeting after the pandemic, offering an opportunity to demonstrate regional unity in the face of shared challenges over the past years.
Malawi looks forward to fruitful discussions with fellow COMESA leaders on advancing economic cooperation, regional integration, and sustainable development—leveraging "green investment" to build back better and stronger from the pandemic crisis.
President Chakwera will depart from Lilongwe's Kamuzu International Airport at 05:30 on June 8 and return at 19:00 the same day.
AfricaBrief looks forward to covering updates and outcomes from the COMESA Summit as leaders gather in Lusaka to discuss joint solutions for economic recovery, climate resilience, and post-Covid renewal across the East and Southern African regions.
COMESA nations and Africa as a whole generally need care in following green policies as a means of growth. Build back better, is a slogan used by WEF, Switzerland, highly influential throughout the world and is part of these policies. Africans have as much right to three car families as richer nations. WEF will not allow it.
