Malawi President Opens New Teacher Training Colleges
The new colleges will help boost Malawi's teacher workforce and contribute to improving education standards across the country.
RUMPHI, Malawi— President Lazarus Chakwera on Tuesday officially opened three newly constructed teacher training colleges in Chikwawa, Mchinji, and Rumphi districts, calling the institutions crucial to Malawi's development goals, writes Winston Mwale.
"It is now my distinguished honor to declare the three completed TTCs in Chikwawa, Mchinji, and here in Rumphi officially opened," Chakwera said during the opening ceremony in Rumphi.
The colleges, equipped with computer labs to train teachers in modern instructional methods, align with Malawi2063 agenda, particularly the human capital development pillar, the president noted.
"These are what is in the vision of our Malawi 2063, especially the fourth enabler of Human Capital Development," Chakwera said, expressing gratitude to international partners like BADEA, the Saudi Fund for Development, and the OPEC Fund for International Development for their support.
Addressing contractors, Chakwera praised those involved in the TTC construction for their commendable work while warning others delaying projects to expedite their efforts.
"The contractors who built these TTCs, take your honor, because you have succeeded," he said.
"But let me warn the other contractors in Chitipa and government officials handling the road construction there carelessly that this should not continue."
The new colleges will help boost Malawi's teacher workforce and contribute to improving education standards across the country.
