LONDON, UK — Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera has wrapped up his visit to the United Kingdom, during which he engaged in discussions on trade and investment opportunities with key stakeholders, writes Winston Mwale.
In addition to attending the coronation event, President Chakwera engaged with various business leaders to discuss investments that would improve the country's productivity and galvanize economic activity.
During a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of East Africa Power Ltd (EAP), President Chakwera discussed the upcoming investment in the Mbongozi hydroelectric power plant, which would increase Malawi's power generation capacity.
President Chakwera also attended a business network meeting with the UK-Malawi Chamber of Commerce, an initiative he launched months ago to increase investments, trade, and business between the United Kingdom and Malawi.
The visit, said Chakwera, aimed to explore the economic potential in multiple sectors, including agriculture, mining, tourism, and manufacturing.
"We intend to use the trip to explore more economic potential in multiple sectors, including agriculture, mining, tourism, and manufacturing," said President Chakwera.
The president expressed his commitment to promoting Malawi as a hub for investment, highlighting the country's strategic location, abundant natural resources, and favourable business climate.
President Chakwera's visit to the United Kingdom is part of his broader strategy to attract foreign investments and create jobs in Malawi.
