LILONGWE, MALAWI — President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi has embarked on a journey to attend the SADC 43rd Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government in Angola, followed by the 15th BRICS Outreach Plus summit scheduled from August 22nd to 24th, writes Winston Mwale.
These pivotal summits share the goal of bolstering regional integration and fostering economic transformation to promote inclusive growth.
President Chakwera voiced his anticipation for the SADC summit, emphasising the strategic moment it presents to advance Malawi's regional development goals.
He stressed the significance of utilising human and financial capital to drive sustainable industrialization across the bloc.
The discussions at the SADC summit will also centre on reinforcing peace, security, and democracy throughout the region.
President Chakwera noted the alignment between the summit's thematic focus and Malawi's Vision 2063, particularly under Enabler #5.
This strategic enabler positions the nation's workforce, especially the youth, as a driving force for economic transformation through targeted investments.
Shifting the spotlight to the BRICS summit, President Chakwera expressed his resolve to advocate for Malawi's interests alongside emerging and fellow developing markets.
The President underscored the imperative of multilateral cooperation in recalibrating the global economic and political landscape for inclusive growth.
Additionally, he plans to engage with influential BRICS members, China and India, to discuss strategies for alleviating Malawi's debt repayment obligations.
