Malawi President Announces Major Sponsor for Charity Golf Tournament

LILONGWE, Malawi— President Lazarus Chakwera unveiled NBS Bank as the diamond sponsor for the upcoming Presidential Charity Initiative Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Kamuzu Palace, writes Winston Mwale.
The bank contributed K155 million to the event, scheduled for Oct. 11-12 at Limbe Country Club.
Chakwera highlighted the initiative's impact in its third year, noting recent distributions of K37.5 million to each of Malawi's six public universities and K225 million for rebuilding Mpatsa Primary School, which was destroyed by Cyclone Freddy.
"I desire that we raise more from this year's tournament to upscale the impact," Chakwera said.
The charity initiative aims to support underprivileged students and rehabilitate communities affected by natural disasters.
Chakwera expressed gratitude to NBS Bank and other stakeholders who have committed to supporting the initiative this year.
The announcement underscores the growing significance of private sector involvement in Malawi's educational and disaster recovery efforts.
