Malawi Police Unit Receives Communication Devices to Boost Community Policing
Officials hope the improved communication system will help transform Biwi into a 24-hour market by ensuring quick reporting and response to incidents.
LILONGWE, Malawi — The Biwi Police Unit, under Kawale Police Station, has received new communication devices from local Community Policing Forum (CPF) teams, addressing a longstanding communication gap between the two groups, writes Precious Mabvuto Phiri.
Inspector Masozi Mwiza Kondowe, Officer-in-Charge of the Biwi Police Unit, welcomed the donation on Tuesday, saying it would enable quicker response times during emergencies.
"Be assured of just-in-time service delivery," Kondowe told CPF members.
"We are together, and if you face any challenges, use the gadgets for instant action."
Kondowe emphasized that delayed incident reporting often leads to mob justice. He urged both police and CPF teams to use the devices effectively while on patrol.
The police unit also announced plans for joint night patrols with CPF teams to enhance security in the area.
Malani Gondwe, CPF chairperson for Biwi, said the initiative aims to boost security in the Biwi industrial area, allowing skilled workers and small businesses to thrive.
"We've already seen a noticeable decrease in crime due to our collaboration," Gondwe said.
Officials hope the improved communication system will help transform Biwi into a 24-hour market by ensuring quick reporting and response to incidents.
Local business owners are encouraged to join the initiative and provide similar devices to their security guards.
