Malawi Opposition Leader Seeks Economic Lessons From Kenya

NAIROBI, Kenya— The leader of the opposition in Malawi's Parliament is calling for increased collaboration with neighboring countries, including Kenya, to address economic challenges facing the southern African nation, writes Bridgette Mwanoka.
Kondwani Nankhumwa, currently on an official visit to Kenya at the invitation of the Kenyan Parliament, underscored the importance of learning from Kenya's economic resilience amid global headwinds.
"Kenya's ability to navigate economic challenges offers valuable lessons for Malawi," Nankhumwa said in Nairobi.
"We must tap into economic wisdom across borders to bolster our own economic prospects."
Reports suggest Kenya's relative success can be attributed to effective government policies and initiatives promoting investment, entrepreneurship and infrastructure enhancement.
Nankhumwa's visit includes engagements with government officials, economists and business leaders to gain insights that could potentially benefit Malawi's economy.
"I am confident that through dialogue and collaboration with key stakeholders in Kenya, we can identify strategies to address our economic challenges and unlock opportunities for growth," he stated.
The visit comes as Malawi seeks to overcome economic impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic and internal challenges.
