Malawi National Council of Sports Renovates Rosedale Court, Boosting Sports in Mzuzu
In addition to the renovated Rosedale Court, Mzuzu City Council also maintains the Katoto courts, further enhancing the city's sports infrastructure.
Mzuzu, Malawi - The Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) officially handed over the fully renovated Rosedale Court to the Mzuzu City Council, writes Victor Musongole.
This gesture follows months of diligent efforts to refurbish the facility after it had been temporarily closed.
Earlier this year, MNCS committed to revitalizing the court, which had fallen into a dilapidated state.
After an investment of K40 million, the Rosedale Court stands as a shining beacon of sporting excellence, ready to serve the community.
The facility, which has been meticulously restored, is now open for a range of sports, including netball, volleyball, and basketball.
This revitalization promises to provide a conducive training ground for athletes in the region.
Alufeyo Chipanga Banda, the Director of Sports at MNCS, shared his thoughts on the importance of this endeavor.
"We saw the need to renovate the court to uplift the sports in the region, and with this court, we are sure more players will be produced from here," Banda remarked, underlining the council's commitment to sports development.
The Mzuzu City Council's Director of Parks, Leisure, and Environment, Yotamu Mtafya, expressed gratitude to MNCS for their generous efforts in refurbishing the court.
He also acknowledged that some work remains to be done to make the facility fully functional.
"As Mzuzu City Council, we are grateful to MNCS for renovating our court. We will now look to other partners to assist in some shortcomings, like sanitary areas and securing the premises," Mtafya said.
Sam Kanyenda, the Technical Director for the Netball Association of Malawi, lauded the council's renovation of Rosedale Court.
He emphasised that the revitalised facility would reduce the distances players and technical staff need to cover for training and games, thus greatly benefiting sports development in the region.
"With this court, players will no longer need to travel long distances to train and play games. This accessible location will significantly improve sports in the region," Kanyenda added.
In addition to the renovated Rosedale Court, Mzuzu City Council also maintains the Katoto courts, further enhancing the city's sports infrastructure.
