Malawi loses to Uganda 46-57, World Cup hopes crushed

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA — Malawi's national netball team, The Queens, faltered in their match against Uganda, losing the opportunity to secure a higher position in the Vitality Netball World Cup, writes Happy Valirani.
The play-off match, held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on Friday, resulted in a 57-46 victory for Uganda.
In the first quarter, Malawi displayed a strong performance, matching Uganda's power with a 14-14 score.
However, the She Cranes of Uganda dominated the second quarter, leading with a score of 28-23.
This momentum carried into the remaining quarters, with Uganda maintaining control of the game.
The third quarter concluded with Uganda leading 43-35, and in the final quarter, Malawi managed only 11 baskets compared to Uganda's 13, resulting in a final score of 57-46 in favour of Uganda.
Shadia Nassanga of Uganda was recognised as the player of the match for her exceptional performance.
As a result of the loss, Malawi's national netball team will now face Tonga on Sunday, August 6, to compete for the 7th and 8th positions.
In another playoff match, South Africa emerged victorious against Tonga and is set to face Uganda in a battle for the 5th and 6th positions.
