Malawi Lawyer Pays School Fees for 14 Needy Thyolo Students

THYOLO, Malawi— A prominent lawyer and board chairman of Salima Sugar Counsel, has paid school fees for 14 students from Chisawani Zone in Thyolo North who were unable to attend secondary school due to financial constraints, writes Luke Chimwaza.
Wester Kosamu handed over a check for K3.2 million on Monday to support the students who had been selected for secondary schools following their recent Primary School Examination results.
"Before studying law, I was a teacher and taught in several schools here at Bvumbwe," Kosamu said.
"I noticed many students get selected to good national secondary schools, but the majority don't attend due to financial hurdles."
The lawyer called on other well-wishers from Thyolo North to join him in forming a bursary committee to support needy students throughout their secondary education.
Willy Malimba, Primary Education Advisor for Chisawani Zone, praised the gesture, saying it would address challenges facing deserving students.
He urged parents, teachers, chiefs, and church leaders to support the initiative.
The beneficiary students have been selected to attend various secondary schools across Malawi, including St. Mary's in Karonga, Likuni Boys and Girls, Blantyre Secondary School, Luchenza, and Thyolo Secondary.
