Malawi Law Scholars Urged: Uphold Ethics, Passion for Society
Professor Happy Kayuni from the Department of Law also spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of the excellence awards.
LILONGWE, MALAWI - Scholars of law in Malawi have been called upon to uphold ethical standards and apply the law with fervour for societal benefit, writes Peter Davieson.
This call was made during an event that celebrated excellence and welcomed new students into both diploma and degree law programs.
Justice Allan Hans Muhome, the Guest of Honor at the event, expressed expectations for the student’s future endeavours post-graduation.
“We have challenged them to look beyond Malawi. They can go into private practice, government departments, or international service. Others may start Non-Governmental Organizations and promote minority rights,” Muhome stated.
Professor Happy Kayuni from the Department of Law also spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of the excellence awards.
“We recognized students who have done very well in both diploma and degree programs from first year to fourth year. These awards inspire students to keep on working hard and excel,” he said.
Kayuni further added that many students from UNIMA have performed exceptionally well in Moot trials, ranking in the top 16 worldwide and surpassing many African countries.
“That is something worthy of recognition,” he concluded.
