This annual event, observed on June 21st, highlights the importance of yoga as a holistic practice for physical and mental well-being.
Deputy Minister of Health, Halima Daud, speaking on behalf of the state president, emphasised the Malawian government's commitment to recognising the significance of this day.
Daud stated, "The government of Malawi takes the day very seriously as the practice offers numerous benefits for physical and mental health, development, and healing."
She further acknowledged the mounting pressures faced in daily life, both within families and workplaces, as well as the impact of the digitalized world, and highlighted yoga as an effective means to alleviate these stresses.
The Indian High Commissioner to Malawi, Subbiah Gopalakrishnan, highlighted the evolution of yoga as a comprehensive approach to achieving a healthy lifestyle.
He stated, "Yoga combines physical, mental, and spiritual pursuits to achieve harmony of the body and mind." Gopalakrishnan emphasised that yoga is not merely a set of exercises to maintain physical fitness, but rather a pathway to health assurance, fitness, and overall wellness.
The International Day of Yoga was established by the United Nations in 2014 to promote the practice's global recognition and highlight its numerous benefits for individuals and communities worldwide.
