OPC assured her that she might receive her dues by the day's end, as reported by Zodiak Online.
LILONGWE, Malawi-The Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) assured all pension beneficiaries and death gratuity claimants of prompt payments, writes Winston Mwale.
Robert Kalindiza, OPC spokesperson, affirmed the government's efforts to ensure timely disbursements.
He urged against politicising payments and assured that every beneficiary is receiving careful consideration.
Henry Mphasa, the Accountant General, highlighted the department's strides in ensuring on-time payments.
He said monthly pension disbursements in recent years have been a positive step.
Additionally, the office has sought funds, likely available by end-January, to expedite pension payments, he said.
The announcement comes after a girl from Mwanza held a vigil at the Lilongwe Accountant General's office, advocating for her late father's death benefits.
OPC assured her that she might receive her dues by the day's end, as reported by Zodiak Online.
"This is an unfortunate situation that we aim to rectify," expressed Kalindiza, stressing President Lazarus Chakwera's concern over delays, as death benefits should ideally be disbursed within a year.
Dismas Kamenya, brother to the girl named Hendrina, confirmed the meeting and assurance but remained cautious due to previous unfulfilled promises.
The government's commitment to addressing overdue benefits comes amid heightened advocacy, emphasising the urgency to expedite rightful payments.
