Malawi government to implement Global Forum Campaign on Adolescence.
Lilongwe, Malawi– Malawi's Minister of Gender, Community Development, and Social Welfare, Jean Sendeza, announced the government's commitment to implementing the Global Forum Campaign on Adolescence, which addresses critical issues affecting young people in the country, writes Judgement Katika.
"We are committed to ensuring that all young people in Malawi have the opportunity to reach their full potential," Sendeza said.
"This campaign will help us to address some of the most pressing challenges facing young people, such as poverty, HIV/AIDS, and gender-based violence."
Sendeza highlighted key commitments in areas such as family planning, women's empowerment, youth involvement in decision-making positions, and other related categories.
"We know that there is still more work to be done," Sendeza said.
"But we are confident that this campaign will help us make significant progress in improving the lives of young people in Malawi."
Phoebe Kasonga, Country Director of Plan International, emphasised that the campaign aims to accelerate the delivery of resources and make a significant impact on adolescents across various sectors.
"The Global Forum Campaign on Adolescence is a powerful opportunity to bring together a wide range of stakeholders and work together to improve the lives of young people," Kasonga said.
"We are committed to working with the government of Malawi and other partners to make this campaign a success."
According to reports from the United Nations, Malawi has shown positive progress in the area of nutrition commitments, resulting in a decrease in stunting growth among adolescents and youths in the country.
The briefing meeting for the Global Forum for Adolescent Project brought together academia, development partners, the private sector, and civil society organisations.
The collaborative effort aims to foster effective partnerships and generate innovative strategies to address the challenges faced by adolescents and young people in Malawi.
As the government and various stakeholders unite to address the needs and rights of young people, the campaign seeks to empower the adolescent population, ensure access to vital resources, and promote their overall well-being.
By implementing the commitments, Malawi strives to create a more inclusive society and provide a brighter future for its younger generation.
