Malawi Football Legends Hail New Partnership with FAM
The partnership aims to address this gap by integrating retired players' expertise into football development initiatives across Malawi.
LILONGWE, Malawi — The Football Legends Association (FLA) of Malawi praised the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) on Tuesday for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at transforming football in the country, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
The signing ceremony took place at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
FLA Board Chairperson and founder Jim Kalua called the partnership key to improving the welfare of retired players.
"I am very excited that we have reached this far. It has taken time, but we had hope that this would be done," Kalua said.
"On behalf of the board members, I am excited."
Kalua emphasized that the legends have valuable knowledge to contribute and expect significant outcomes from this collaboration.
FAM First Vice President Christopher Madalitso Kuyera described the partnership as a milestone, underscoring FAM's commitment to giving a stronger voice to those directly involved in the game.
"FAM acknowledges that former players are not actively involved in association football programs, and hence their knowledge is underutilized while the game lacks such resources to develop," Kuyera said.
The partnership aims to address this gap by integrating retired players' expertise into football development initiatives across Malawi.
This MoU formalizes an existing working relationship between FAM and the Football Legends Association, with both parties expressing optimism about the future of Malawian football under this strengthened collaboration.
