Malawi Football League Launches Full E-Ticketing for Sunday's Match
The e-ticketing system was initially piloted during the Sapitwa 4 tournament from March 23-24, 2024, featuring Super League clubs at Mulanje Park.
BLANTYRE, Malawi— The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) is pushing forward with its transition to digital payments, launching 100% electronic ticketing for Sunday's match between Karonga United and Nyasa Big Bullets, writes writes Pemphero Musowa.
SULOM Vice General Secretary Donnex Chilonga said the move aims to promote cashless transactions among football fans, in partnership with league sponsor TNM Plc.
"As the world embraces the era of digitalization, e-ticketing will be a catalyst in Malawi as we work on reforming, reviving and rebranding our football," Chilonga said.
The new system allows instant transfer of gate revenue to teams, replacing the current bank deposit method. It also enables teams to track their revenue through an e-ticketing portal.
Chilonga acknowledged that the transition from cash tickets would be gradual, emphasizing the need to educate fans on the broader benefits of the TNM Mpamba Debit card beyond e-ticketing.
TNM Head of Brand and Marketing Madalitso Jonazi reported growing interest in the e-ticketing service among football fans and other event-goers.
"Mobile payments using TNM Mpamba have become the new fashion statement in commerce," Jonazi said, adding that e-ticketing is part of TNM's strategy to improve football infrastructure in Malawi through its long-term sponsorship of the TNM Super League.
The e-ticketing system was initially piloted during the Sapitwa 4 tournament from March 23-24, 2024, featuring Super League clubs at Mulanje Park.
This digital transition marks a significant step in modernizing Malawi's football operations, potentially improving financial transparency and efficiency in the sport.
