LILONGWE, Malawi – Science and environmental journalists in Malawi have been reminded to create impact through reporting by not only holding government accountable but taking an account of communities into action on environmental sustainability, writes Abraham Bisayi.
Emmanuel Muwamba, Board Chairperson of Association of Environmental Journalist in Malawi, disclosed this on Thursday during the opening of the 2024 Annual Congress of Science and Environmental Journalists in Lilongwe under the theme "Be Part of the Plan."
"It is very important that journalists should strive in addressing the factors that lead to environmental degradation so that the environment is sustainably managed and restored," Muwamba said.
Taonga Mbale Luka, Director of the Environmental Affairs Department, assured the government's commitment in supporting the roles that journalists play in raising awareness and reaching out to the masses on fostering mindset change about environmental management.
"We still need your support in raising awareness amongst the general public on how we can sustainably manage the environment and natural resources in the country," Luka said.
