Malawi Entrepreneur Urges Youth to Embrace Business at Mzuzu Concert
This initiative comes as Malawi seeks to boost youth employment and entrepreneurship as part of its Vision 2063 development plan.
MZUZU, Malawi— A young Malawian entrepreneur on Friday encouraged her peers to pursue business ventures, highlighting entrepreneurship's potential to address unemployment and contribute to national development goals, writes Lumbani Kaunda.
Rejoice Gondwe, founder of REJO Salon and Beauty Shop, made the remarks after a two-day youth business concert at Mzuzu Stadium.
"Let the youth get involved," Gondwe said.
"At REJO Salon, we are ready to train our peers in skills like braiding hairstyles, weaving, and other salon-related work, so they can become self-reliant instead of chasing white-collar jobs."
Gondwe called on authorities to support young people engaged in small-scale businesses and urged the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) to offer loans based on merit rather than political affiliations.
Mzuzu City Council CEO Gomezgani Nyasulu said the event aimed to connect with young people and better understand their needs.
The concert featured youth from the region showcasing their products, with many expressing excitement about meeting potential investors.
Officials from the Malawi Bureau of Standards were present to advise on certification.
