Blantyre, Malawi - In a pivotal address at the 2nd Graduation Ceremony of the University of Blantyre Synod, Malawi's Minister of Education, Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima, stressed the indispensable role of education in the nation's development agenda, writes Winston Mwale.
The ceremony, held at the St. Michael and All Angels CCAP Church Multi-Purpose Hall on Friday, saw the conferring of degrees upon hardworking graduands.
It drew the presence of high-profile dignitaries, including Dr. Valentino Zimpita, Deputy Director of Higher Education, representing the Secretary for Education, the Chancellor of University of Blantyre Synod, Reverend Dr. Humphreys Zgambo, the University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Isabel Apawo Phiri, and various other stakeholders.
Importance of Education in National Development
Minister Wirima began her speech by underlining the pivotal role of education in national development. She emphasized that a thriving education sector paves the way for qualified human resources, contributing significantly to the nation's development.
Furthermore, the Minister revealed that the Ministry of Education is dedicated to aligning the educational sector with the Malawi 2063 vision. This strategic approach recognizes Human Capital Development as a key enabler for the fulfillment of the nation's aspirations by 2063.

In line with the vision of the Education Sector, Malawi2063, and the first Implementation Plan (MIP-1) under Human Capital Development Pillar, the Ministry is committed to enhancing access to higher education.
Minister Wirima praised the University of Blantyre Synod, established in 2017, for providing opportunities for deserving Malawians who cannot secure positions in public universities.
The Minister also called for accreditation of all programs by the National Council for Higher Education and alignment with the Malawi 2063 vision to bolster inclusivity and self-reliance.
