Malawi Chiefs Champion National Addressing System for Development Progress
The government-led initiative aims to assign unique addresses to all Malawian locations, potentially transforming service provision and economic engagement.
KARONGA, Malawi— Senior Chief Karonga endorsed the National Address System (NAS) Wednesday, urging community support for the government initiative to improve service delivery and economic development, writes Lusekero Mhango.
Speaking at an awareness meeting with chiefs and faith leaders organised by MACRA and Mzuzu City Council, the senior chief emphasised NAS's potential to facilitate better planning and enhance access to government services.
"The National Addressing System is a comprehensive system that will facilitate better planning, enhance business operations, and improve access to government services," the chief said.
Bishop Gervazio Liwewe of the Pastors Fraternal pledged to educate congregants about NAS benefits, noting its potential to expedite disaster response.
"Karonga is prone to disasters like floods, and having NAS will speed up rescue and support," he said.
Burnet Namacha, MACRA's Deputy Director of Postal Services, expressed concerns about slow NAS implementation, attributing challenges to community vandalism of signposts.
