LILONGWE, Malawi- The Malawi beach soccer national team departed Friday for the 6-day COSAFA Beach Soccer Championships in Durban, South Africa, writes Happy Valirani.
Head coach Willy Kumilambe has taken a 10-member squad that represented Malawi at the 2022 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in Mozambique.
"We have been in camp for two weeks and the preparations have been so good. The response from the boys has been super and they are really gelling very well. We are ready to compete and I have confidence the team will carry the championship. I'm assuring the nation that we will make them proud," Kumilambe said before departure.
The only issue was failing to include new players due to passport delays.
"We have just maintained the squad that played the 2022 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in Mozambique. I'm confident with the boys, they will represent Malawi," he added.
The squad includes goalkeepers Justine Bonongwe and Eddie Jamu, defenders Sandram Saddie, Martin Biliati, Arnold Lasteni and Blessings Likupe, midfielders Dala Simba and Isaac Kajamu, and strikers Frank Mwenelupembe and O'Brien Nkhumbula.
