LILONGWE, Malawi— Air Cargo Malawi Ltd., a state-owned company, has launched an education initiative with a K4 million scholarship donation to a local secondary school, writes AfricaBrief Reporter.
The company's "Adopt a School" program will support 40 students at Kalumbu Community Day Secondary School in Lilongwe, covering tuition and educational resources.
"Our revolving Adopt a School program aims to bridge the gap in educational resources and opportunities by empowering students to reach their full potential," said Arnold Chimwenje, Air Cargo's director of operations.
The corporate social responsibility program seeks to improve access to quality education in public schools while fostering skills development and community empowerment.
Ishmael Kadzenje, head teacher at Kalumbu CDSS, said the donation would help reduce student dropouts caused by inability to pay fees.
"Lack of school fees is a big challenge in this area," Kadzenje said. He urged parents to "make sure that their wards are attending school" now that the "burden has been reduced."
Air Cargo Malawi has recently worked to improve its operations, signing air charter agreements with the Malawi Defense Force and expanding into pharmaceutical freight imports.
The company plans to partner with local education authorities nationwide to support future leaders and entrepreneurs, according to Chimwenje.
