Dakar, Senegal-Officials from Makanjira Development Foundation (MDF) of Mangochi are in Dakar, Senegal, to attend the 4th African Philanthropy Conference, writes Hope Nyondo.
The conference, which is being held from July 31 to August 5, 2023, is an annual gathering of the continent's generous institutions and stakeholders.
The objective of the conference is to provide an opportunity for academics, philanthropic leaders, government officials, and researchers to reflect on the issues that are confronting the African philanthropy ecosystem.
MDF Executive Chairman Ousman Kennedy said that the platform for sharing ideas with other African countries will give the organisation an opportunity to learn how it can further implement development activities in the Makanjira area and Malawi as a whole.
"We are here to deliberate on strategies that can amplify the development agenda of various ideas, and learn what we can do to empower communities to participate in development activities," he said.
Kennedy is also expected to give a speech on how MDF is impacting communities and the challenges that the people of Makanjira are facing. This is the first time that the organisation has participated in an international conference.
Kennedy is joined at the conference by two other MDF representatives, Amanda Manjolo and Eraniva Nyirenda.
The trip was funded by the Tilitonse Foundation, with support from Comic Relief.
The African Philanthropy Conference is a valuable opportunity for MDF to learn from other organisations and share its own experiences.
The knowledge and insights that the organisation gains from the conference will help it better serve the people of Makanjira and Malawi.
