Mafco marches into cup finals after penalties win
The Salima-based soldiers will face FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the final, following their 3-1 win over the central bankers after the match ended one-all draw in normal time.
LILONGWE, Malawi - Mafco Football Club on Tuesday marched into the finals of the 2023 Airtel Malawo Top 8 Cup after outsmarting Silver Strikers football club in post-match penalties at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
The Salima-based soldiers will face FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the final, following their 3-1 win over the central bankers after the match ended one-all draw in normal time.
Bullets and Mafco also met in the FHD Bank Cup final the game people's team won by 3 goals to nil at the same venue.
"We are hungrier for the success than ever," Mafco captain Paul ‘khado’ Ndlobvu said.
For the Mafco captain, the season ending finale could not be better scripted, as the soldier's defender is sure to be in the firing line to lead his players avenge the 2023 FDH Cup final defeat against Bullets.
Looking ahead to the final after a dismal in FDH Cup, Ndlobvu has revealed that this time its another new game and they are hungrier for the success than ever.
"I think we cant be more motivated than knowing we're playing a final and even though its against Bullets, it could be any other team but knowing that it's a cup final, its an important game, only one team can win and be victorious and lift the trophy," the Mafco F.C skipper added.
Mafco coach Prichard Mwanza does it again guiding the MDF sponsored side to two finals of different cups within a season, leaving his counterpart Silver outspoken coach Pieter de Jongh only Castel Challenge Cup to take it to the Reserve Bank.
The game is set for 6 January 2024 at the venue to be announced by Football Association of Malawi (FAM).
