Lower League Raiply FC Ousts Super League Side in Cup Upset

MZIMBA, Malawi— Raiply FC stunned TNM Super League team Chitipa United in a penalty shootout to advance in the FDH Bank Cup on Saturday, writes Lumbani Kaunda.
The lower league side emerged victorious 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time at Raiply ground, becoming the first team to eliminate a senior side in the 2024 competition.
Chitipa United took the lead in the 41st minute when Francis Nyirenda scored off an assist from Steve Saka. Raiply FC equalized in the 62nd minute through Moses "Fazara" Phiri, assisted by Samson Mphande.
Raiply's goalkeeper Blessings Chinyama, named player of the match, made crucial saves in the shootout.
Blessings Nyirenda, speaking for Raiply, praised the team's "never-say-die attitude." Chitipa United declined to comment on the loss.
