CHIKWAWA, Malawi - Malawian Minister of Local Government Richard Chimwendo Banda has emphasized the importance of involving local artisans in infrastructure construction projects, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
Speaking after inspecting the newly built K52 million Nsangwe Health Centre in Chikwawa, Banda expressed his satisfaction with the high-quality work delivered by a local artisan from the area.
"These are the kind of artisans we want to see building infrastructure, adhering to the allocated budget and delivering excellent results," Banda stated.
He assured citizens that the government is committed to planting the seeds of development across the country.
Previously, communities in the area lacked adequate healthcare access, traveling up to 10 kilometers to reach the nearest medical facilities.
Member of Parliament for Chikwawa South, Illias Karim, highlighted the positive impact of the new health center, alleviating the burden on residents and providing much-needed services.
Furthermore, Karim applauded the government's decision to increase the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from K40 million to K100 million, which facilitated the construction of the Nsangwe Health Centre.
This initiative aligns with Minister Banda's vision of empowering local communities by creating skilled job opportunities and ensuring equal access to infrastructure development.
The success of the Nsangwe Health Centre serves as a model for future projects, encouraging the inclusion of local talent and expertise in building a more prosperous Malawi.
