Local group aids elderly, enhances safety

PHALOMBE, Malawi- A newly-registered local organization is making a significant impact on the lives of elderly individuals, ensuring their safety and well-being within their communities, writes Tionge Hara.
For example, on Christmas Eve, the Empowerment Initiative for Elderly and Children Foundation brought cheer and support to elderly residents at the Phalombe District Hospital, spreading joy and highlighting the importance of elderly care in the community.
"As per our aim for our organization is to help the elderly people, that's why we thought of this, and also cheering those who were hospitalized during the Christmas Eve," said Daniel Jafred, executive director.
"We are also here to protect the rights of elderly people and children so that they're safe in their communities," he added.
According to Jafred, the vision is "to see the elderly and children rights to be respected accordingly."
So far the visit at Phalombe District Hospital was the organization's first achievement and they plan to do more in the future, he said.
