Tilerane, a local charity, fulfills vision by building and repairing a house worth MK3,498,500 for 71-year-old Ireen Chilembwe Foloma.
LIKOMA ISLAND, MALAWI — Tilerane, a local charity grouping, has made a lasting impact on the life of 71-year-old Ireen Chilembwe Foloma of Mbako, Yofu Village on Likoma Island, writes Oliver Malibisa.
They have constructed and repaired a house for her, worth K3,498,500, providing her with a secure place to live.
Dalitso Chembe, speaking on behalf of Tilerane during the handover ceremony on Monday, expressed how fulfilling it was to fulfil their vision of providing a decent house to an elderly person.
He acknowledged the support of donors, including Mukki Mukadam, Vincent Kafwamba, Lucy Chilombe Siyeni, Peter Chiwaula, and Immanuel Ndilowe, without whom this project would not have been possible.
Chembe emphasized that Tilerane is a nonprofit organisation that relies on resources mobilised by well-wishers and community support.
Ireen Chilembwe Foloma, the grateful beneficiary, expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the timely assistance.
As an elderly woman, she had lost hope of ever having a house for the remainder of her life. She attributed her fortune to God through the intervention of Tilerane.
"I never thought I would have a house again in my lifetime. I thank God for what Tilerane has done for me," she said.
"This group has done more for me than even my own relatives could manage."
In addition to the house, Tilerane also provided financial assistance of 100,000 kwacha and various essential items, including two mattresses and bedding.
Tilerane advised family members to continue supporting and caring for Ireen Chilembwe Foloma and her new property, ensuring she can enjoy her newfound security and comfort.
