Lingadzi Rotary Club Donates Oxygen Concentrator to Bwaila Fistula Care Centre
Lingadzi Rotary Club provides much-needed equipment to Bwaila Fistula Care Center to enhance the repairing process for women with Fistula condition.
LILONGWE, MALAWI — The Lingadzi Rotary Club has donated an oxygen concentrator to Bwaila Fistula Care Centre to improve treatment for patients with Fistula conditions, writes Chifundo Kudzula Gondwe.
Rotarian Evelyn Sibindi Van-Dam expressed the club's rationale behind the donation, stating that they recognised the centre's struggles with repairing Fistula patients due to having only one functioning oxygen concentrator.
"With the addition of this oxygen concentrator, we hope to facilitate the healing process of Fistula patients at the facility," said Rotarian Van-Dam.
Beyond the equipment donation, Van-Dam revealed plans for the rotary club to initiate tailoring lessons for Fistula survivors, aiming to promote their economic independence.
Bwaila Fistula Care Centre specialises in providing essential care to women affected by fistula conditions, and its daily registration of new patients contributes to the existing patient count of forty.
Dr. Grace Chiudzu, Chairperson of the Bwaila Fistula Care Centre Board, stressed the importance of continuous support from well-wishers to ensure they can restore hope, life, and dignity to women with fistula conditions.
Highlighting the centre's limited resources, Dr. Chiudzu disclosed that despite having three wards and a single theatre, the centre had only one dysfunctional oxygen concentrator.
The Rotary Club's donation enables the centre to operate with two functioning oxygen concentrators.
Bwaila Fistula Care Centre also collaborates with ambassadors who advocate for Fistula patients nationwide to seek treatment at the centre.
One of the ambassadors, Pastor Fadwork Patrick Mita Bauleni, emphasised the significance of encouraging women with fistula conditions to receive treatment, enabling them to become productive members of society.
Launched in 2012, Bwaila Fistula Care Centre strives to treat 400 women with fistula conditions annually.
