LILONGWE, Malawi β The prestigious Malawi Landscape Restoration Forum, held under the theme "Scaling up Financing for Forest Landscape Restoration in Malawi," convened today, October 5, 2023, in Lilongwe, setting the stage for vital discussions on environmental conservation and financing, writes Tionge Hara.
Dr. Yusuf Mkungula, secretary for Natural Resources, stressed the urgency of concerted efforts to conserve natural resources and restore degraded landscapes in the country, stating, "We must serve as a catalyst for action and work together to preserve our natural heritage for future generations." π³π²π
Knut Gummet, Deputy Head of Development Cooperation of Germany, outlined several initiatives aimed at reducing land degradation in Malawi, including reforestation, improving access to water, and educating farmers on land preservation.
The Landscape Restoration Forum serves as a platform for prominent stakeholders to exchange knowledge, share best practises, and explore innovative solutions for forest landscape restoration financing.
