Lilongwe Charity Appeals for Aid to Help Vulnerable Children
The Zoe Foundation was established in 2018 and currently cares for 74 vulnerable children.
LILONGWE, Malawi - Founder of a Lilongwe-based nonprofit has appealed for support to enhance the organization's work assisting vulnerable children, writes Moses Nyirenda, MANA.
Temwa Chilenga, founder of the Zoe Foundation, urged well-wishers, NGOs, companies and individuals to provide aid during a Saturday visit from the Water Employees Trade Union of Malawi.
The union donated soap, maize, sugar, flour, soy pieces and cooking oil worth K7.5 million to the charity.
"The problems that we face include shortage of food, lack of school fees as well as learning materials for our children. Our plea to the well-wishers is food, school fees, learning materials and other things that children may need," Chilenga said.
The Zoe Foundation was established in 2018 and currently cares for 74 vulnerable children.
Chilenga said the charity faces challenges providing food, school fees and learning materials.
She appreciated the union's support, saying the donation would help address some challenges.
Elizabeth Chirambo, chairwoman of the union's women's wing, said the group decided to visit after reading about Chilenga's work on Facebook.
"We decided to visit her foundation with support in order to encourage her," Chirambo said.
She called on other organizations and donors to also provide aid.
The foundation is based in Area 25 in Lilongwe. Chilenga made the appeal for increased support during the union's visit.
